DEVELOPMENT OF THE ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORTATION STANDARD: WHERE WE ARE NOW

Disability community now has 50% representation on standards development committees

The ministry has adjusted the membership of the accessibility standards development committees to make sure that half the members of each committee are representatives of the disability community.

Giving the disability community a more active voice at the table will strengthen the standards development process and help us develop meaningful solutions to breaking down barriers that people with disabilities face.

The committees will start meeting towards the end of March to resume their work.

On June 27, 2007, the government announced that the proposed standard on accessible transportation would be posted on the Web for public review and feedback. The public review period ended on September 28, 2007.

The Transportation Standards Development Committee will reconvene to review the public’s input before finalizing the proposed standard and submitting it to the Minister.
