HOW TO REGISTER A SUPPORT ORDER WITH THE FRO

When an Ontario court orders one person to pay support for a child, spouse or parent, the support order is automatically sent to the Family Responsibility Office (FRO) for registration.

When an Ontario court makes a support order, the court also issues a support deduction order.  These orders are automatically registered with the FRO for enforcement.  The support deduction order allows the FRO to issue a support deduction notice to a support payor’s income source.  The support deduction notice requires the payor’s income source to deduct support payments from the support payor’s wages and forward these deductions to the FRO.

If you pay or receive court-ordered support, here’s what you can expect:

  • The FRO will use your order to open a new case and assign a unique seven digit case number.
  • The FRO will send you information with forms for you to complete and return to the FRO. They should be completed and returned to the FRO as soon as possible.
  • The FRO will send you a Personal Identification Number (PIN) two weeks after registration. The PIN will be unique to you, and will allow you to access information on the FRO automated information line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
