ONTARIO DEVELOPMENTAL SERVICES CAREER CONNECTIONS GRANT

The Ontario government offers grant opportunities for up to 20 college and university students who want to get hands-on experience in the field of developmental services.

The Ontario Developmental Services Career Connections Grant provides up to $4,500 in financial support for students in the practicum component of their degree/diploma as well as eligible travel expenses.

Field placements are available at almost 40 community agencies across Ontario that provide specialized supports for adults with a developmental disability.

What the grant can do for you

The grant is an opportunity for you to:

  • gain practical work experience
  • learn from professionals who have clinical expertise in providing leading-edge, specialized supports to people with a developmental disability
  • help individuals with a developmental disability achieve greater independence and a higher quality of life, and
  • enhance your career prospects.

Eligibility requirements

To qualify for the grant program, applicants must:

  • have good academic standing in one of the following disciplines:
    • behavioual science technology/technician
    • social work
    • psychology, including clinical psychology and behavioural psychology
    • speech/language pathology
    • nursing
    • occupational therapy, and
    • physical therapy/physiotherapy.
  • be legally entitled to live and work in Canada; and
  • be studying at a recognized community college or university in Ontario.

Experience working for or supporting persons with disabilities is an asset.

How to apply

This grant program is funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and is administered by the Northeast Mental Health Centre in cooperation with the Ontario Association on Developmental Disabilities.
